MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State dropped a 6-1 decision to Mercer at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center Wednesday in non-conference action.
Alabama State (2-1) dropped the doubles' point to Mercer, despite picking up a 6-0 win at number three doubles by the team of
Ruan Du Preez and
Assil Boussayri. The Hornets had a chance to take the doubles point but fell in a hard-fought 7-5 match at number two.
In singles play, Boussayri picked up a three-set victory (6-4, 4-6, 10-7) over Carver Arant, while his doubles partner Du Preez dropped a hard-fought 6-3, 7-5 decision to Hugo Lobo at number two singles. Several of the other singles matches were strongly contested by the Hornets including at number one by
Chris Andre who fell 6-4, 6-4 to Lucas Waynburg.
The Hornets return to action Saturday afternoon on the road facing Samford.
