MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State dropped a 6-1 decision to Mercer at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center Wednesday in non-conference action.
Alabama State (0-3) dropped the doubles' point to Mercer, although the doubles team of
Urska Velec and
Bea Acena won a 7-5 decision at number two over the Bears' Alara Hollyfield and Lekha Varudandi. Meanwhile, the number three doubles team of
Madalena Andrade and
Ana Tarbujaru dropped a hard-fought 7-5 decision to Mercer's Ericka Chavarria and Lauren Rich.
In singles play, Alabama State picked up a victory at number one when Andrade defeated Maeva Roquebert for the Lady Hornets' lone win in the match.
The Lady Hornets return to action Saturday afternoon at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center, facing Troy. The facility is limited capacity due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and Alabama State University is a mask-mandatory campus.
