MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State returns home for a three game homestand beginning this weekend with UAPB and Mississippi Valley State.
Alabama State (7-1, 7-1 SWAC) leads the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) and owns the tiebreaker over Jackson State entering the second half of the season this weekend. The Lady Hornets tip at 2 pm against UAPB Saturday afternoon, and then at 5:30 pm Monday night against Mississippi Valley State. Both games can be seen on the Hornet Sports Network.
The Lady Hornets swept the two teams they are facing this weekend back in the second week of January on the road. They defeated UAPB 87-79 behind a 20 point-10 rebound performance from
Shmya Ward, the reigning SWAC Impact Player of the Week.
Ayana Emmanuel led Alabama State with 29 points in the, scoring 10 of the first 14 points of the game for the Lady Hornets, while
Jayla Crawford added 14 points in the win.
Meanwhile, against Mississippi Valley State, the Lady Hornets grabbed a 69-45 victory behind an 18-point performance from Crawford on 6-of-12 shooting from the floor. Emmanuel added 13, while Ward added 14 points and eight rebounds.
For the season, Emmanuel leads Alabama State at 17.0 points per game on 48.9 (44-for-90) percent from the floor and 43.3 (13-for-30) percent from the free throw line. Meanwhile, Ward is averaging 16.8 points and 10.3 rebounds, while Crawford is averaging 12.4 points per game while shooting 85.2 (23-for-27) percent from the free throw line.
Tyesha Rudolph is averaging 7.9 points per game after scoring in double figures in the last three games.
Season tickets are currently on sale at the Alabama State Ticket Office by calling (334) 229-4551. There will be no single-game tickets sold or day of game sales, all tickets must be purchased prior to the day of the game to be admitted into the Dunn-Oliver Acadome. Also, Alabama State is a mask-mandatory campus and masks must be worn throughout the Dunn-Oliver Acadome for the entirety of the contest.
