MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State avenged an early season road loss to UAPB, defeating the Golden Lions 73-67 in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome Saturday night.
Alabama State (3-7) ended a two-game skid against the Golden Lions after taking the lead with just under 14 minutes remaining in the first half and opening a 21-point lead (61-40) in the second half due in large part to shooting 42.4 (25-for-59) percent from the floor. The Hornets also shot 40.0 (10-for-25) percent from beyond the arc and 61.9 (13-for-21) percent from the free throw line.
DJ Heath led four players in double figures for Alabama State, dropping in 16 on 7-for-9 shooting from the floor and he added a pair of assists on the night.
Brandon Battle recorded his fourth double-double on the season with 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, while also adding a pair of blocks and a pair of steals.
Kevion Stewart added 11 and
DJ Jackson a career-high 10 in the win for the Hornets, who forced 23 turnovers and won the rebounding battle 38-33.
Meanwhile, Joshuwan Johnson led three UAPB players in double figures with 17 points, while the Golden Lions shot 42.0 (21-for-50) percent from the floor and just 30.8 (4-for-13) percent from beyond the arc.
Alabama State returns to action inside the Dunn-Oliver Acadome Monday night against Mississippi Valley State, with tip set for 8 pm. The game can be seen on the Hornet Sports Network.

There will be no single-game tickets sold or day of game sales, all tickets must be purchased prior to the day of the game to be admitted into the Dunn-Oliver Acadome. Also, Alabama State is a mask-mandatory campus and masks must be worn throughout the Dunn-Oliver Acadome for the entirety of the contest.
