MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State remains unbeaten in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play after a 1-1 draw with Grambling State at the ASU Soccer Complex Sunday afternoon.
Grambling State struck first in the 14th minute of the contest on a goal off the foot of Johana Behrens that found the lower right corner of the goal for the 1-0 lead. It stayed that way until the 31st minute when Alabama State converted on their second penalty kick in two games, when
McKenna Lupori lined the ball up and drilled home the equalizer.
The two teams battled over the next 89 minutes, including a pair of overtimes in which the two battled scoreless.
Grambling State got off 13 shots total, including eight on goal; while Alabama State was able to get six shots off and half of those (three) were on goal for the Lady Hornets.
Madison Roop recorded seven saves for Alabama State to preserve the end result.
Alabama State (1-2-1, 1-0-1 SWAC) returns to action next weekend on the road in conference play at Southern and Jackson State beginning Friday night in Baton Rouge (La.).
