MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State dropped a 6-1 decision to West Alabama at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center Sunday afternoon in non-conference action.
Alabama State (3-5) narrowly lost the doubles' point after picking up a 6-2 victory at number three behind the play of
Madalena Andrade and
Francesca Duca but were unable to break at number one where they dropped a 7-6 decision and the point to go down 1-0.
In singles play, Alabama State dropped five matches in straight sets despite having a chance in four of those in tiebreaks (7-6) and a fifth on a break point (7-5). The Lady Hornets were able to pick up a singles win however, when
Ana Tarbujaru won a three-set match over West Alabama's Valerie Arevalo 3-6, 6-4, 10-5.
Alabama State returns to action March 13 against Southern in the SWAC Pod Two in Montgomery. No fans will be allowed inside the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center. Alabama State University is a mask mandatory campus, including all of its athletic venues.
