JACKSON, Miss. | Alabama State dropped the final game of their three-game series to Jackson State 4-2 at Braddy Field on Sunday afternoon.
Jackson State (21-7, 15-0 SWAC) got on the board early as they scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead. They added two more in the third to take a 4-0 lead before Alabama State (12-17, 8-7 SWAC) was able to get their offense going in the top of the fourth inning.
Trenton Jamison hit his team-leading seventh home run of the season in the top of the fourth inning to trim the deficit to 4-1, before
Santiago Garcia drove in another run on an RBI groundout in the top of the sixth inning.
Nikelle Galatas (6-2) picked up the win for Jackson State, working 7.0 innings and allowing two runs while scattering five hits with Steven Davila working for the final two innings to pick up his fourth save of the season. Meanwhile,
Jordan Gould (4-1), the first of three pitchers used by the Hornets, went 3.0 innings and allowed four runs off of six hits.
Ryan Velazquez went four scoreless innings out of the bullpen with five strikeouts, while
Payton Harris pitched the final inning for Alabama State.
Dilan Espinal finished the fay 2-for-3 at the plate for Alabama State, while
Cristopher DeGuzman picked up a double.
The Hornets return to action this week with games against Florida A&M and a non-conference series against SWAC foe Grambling State over the weekend.
