MONTGOMERY, Ala. |Â Alabama State wrapped up their regular season play with a 7-0 victory over non-conference opponent Spring Hill at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center on Wednesday morning.
Alabama State (8-5, 5-0 SWAC) earned the doubles point after winning all three pairings to go up 1-0. They would use a 6-1 victory at number two by
Ruan Du Preez and
Assil Boussayri, a 6-2 win by
Juan Rodriguez and
Chris Andre at number three and a hard fought 7-6 win at number one by
Alejo Calvis and
Kristofer Johnson.
The Hornets also swept the singles all in straight sets, with Johnson winning at five (6-2, 6-0), Boussayri taking number three (6-1, 6-0), Calvis taking number six (6-1, 6-2), Du Preez taking number two (6-1, 6-0), Rodriguez winning at four (6-3, 6-3) and Andre taking number one (6-4, 6-4).
Alabama State returns to action on Saturday in New Orleans, Louisiana for the SWAC Tennis Championships as the first seeded Hornets will take on the winner of the first round matchup of fourth seeded Alabama A&M and sixth seeded Alcorn State held on Friday. First serve for the semifinal match on Saturday is scheduled for a 1Â pm start.
