NEW ORLEANS, La. |Â Alabama State continued with their winning play with a 4-0 win over Jackson State in the semifinal round of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Tennis Championships on Sunday afternoon.
The Hornets (9-5, 5-0 SWAC) dropped just a single set in doubles competition against the Tigers as
Chris Andre and
Juan Rodriguez won 6-4 at number three, followed by a 7-5 win by
Ruan Du Preez and
Assil Boussayri. The pairing of
Alejo Calvis and
Kristofer Johnson fell 3-6 at court one for the lone loss.
In singles play, Johnson picked up the first win at number 5 in straight sets 6-0, 6-1, while Calvis also won in straight sets at number (6-1, 6-2). Boussayri picked up the final point to by scores of 6-2, 6-2 to secure the Hornet win.
Alabama State returns to action on Monday, April 20 in New Orleans as they advance to the SWAC Men's Tennis Championship.
