Tuscaloosa, Ala. I Alabama State dropped a non-conference game against nationally ranked Alabama 11-3 at Rhoads Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Alabama State (9-24, 4-5 SWAC) got the first hit of the game, however slowed offensively while Alabama scored three runs in the first inning followed by two more in the second to go up 5-0.

The Hornets got another runner on in the third, however the Crimson Tide had another strong outing, scoring five runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Alabama State got on the board in the fourth when Taliya Talley doubled to left to score Aishja Wilcher and added two in the top of the fifth with a triple from Jaeda Gardner.

Madison Myers led Alabama State going 1-for-2 from the plate and scoring a run, as well as pitched in for relief for the final 1.2 innings and gave up just one run off four hits and struck out two.

Gardner and Talley earned the other two hits, while Vanessa Bradford started the first three innings where she recorded a strikeout and allowed 13 hits in the loss.

Alabama State will return to the field on Thursday as they host conference opponent Mississippi Valley State for a three-game series at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex.

Due to COVID-19 protocols, only those listed on the Player Pass List will be allowed entry into the Barbara Williams Softball Complex. All concessions will be cashless throughout the season and the Alabama State University campus – including its athletic venues – are mask mandatory.
