MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State (10-13, 7-4 SWAC) began the game with an eight run inning in game two of the weekend series to take a 15-0 win over in-state rival Alabama A&M on Friday afternoon.
The Hornets scored their first two runs off of Bulldog errors, followed by a single from
Abner Benitez to score
Santiago Garcia and a single from
Dale Francis to bring home
AJ Gardner. After a single from
Jayden Sloan to bring home the fifth run,
Angel Jimenez added to the total by stealing home, while
Jabronski Williams finished the eight run inning with a two-run homer.
Alabama State would continue their onslaught in the third, with
Cristopher DeGuzman,
Trenton Jamison and Jimenez all hitting home runs, along with a score off a single from Williams to score Sloan for a 13-0 lead after three.
Jamison added another RBI to his totals in the fourth, while Gardner brought home Garcia off a single to center for the final score in the fifth.
DeGuzman led Alabama State with four hits on the day along with an RBI and two runs scored while Jamison added three hits, three RBI and a run scored as well. Four other Hornets recorded at least two hits on the night, as they finished with 17 total hits against three different Bulldog pitchers.
Breon Pooler (3-2) picked up the win for the Hornets, pitching all seven innings and giving up just one hit and striking out seven.
The two teams will conclude their three-game series on Saturday, with first pitch being scheduled for 1 pm.
