CLINTON, S.C. | Alabama State could not overcome an early goal from Presbyterian in the first half, falling to the Blue Hose 1-0 in non-conference action at Edens Field at Martin Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Presbyterian got on the board in the first half when Kori Lawrence went upper 90 in the right corner in the 14th minute to give Presbyterian a 1-0 lead.
- Sheila Sanchez (Castellon, Spain) saved a pair of one-on-one opportunities in the first half (26th minute and 28th minute).
- Alabama State had an opportunity to level the match in the first half when McKenna Wiscombe (Orem, Utah) took a free kick from Paige Patton (Kent, Wash.), beating the Presbyterian keeper before the ball was saved off the line to maintain the Blue Hose lead.
GAME NOTES
- Alabama State made a pair of changes in the starting lineup as Madison Chambers (Hobart, Tasmania, Australia) and Sunny Bowlin-Stacy (Anchorage, Alaska) were inserted for the Sunday match.
- They were joined by MF Camila Jimenez (Weston, Fla.), D Madison Tyler (Maricopa, Ariz.), GK Sanchez, F Wiscombe, F Isabella Beortegui (Santa Ana, Calif.), MF Grace Norbury (Melbourne, Australia), D Kristen Thomas (Watkinsville, Ga.), D Kayleigh O'Neal (San Diego, Calif.), and D Patton.
- Alabama State played 17Â players in the loss.
- The Lady Hornets dropped their second consecutive match against a member of the Big South Conference to open the 2021 season.
- Alabama State was outshot 14-10 in the loss, while being held to just one shot on goal.
- Sanchez finished the day with five saves, giving her 13 on the season (21 saves including the exhibition match).
