Alabama State plays 110 minutes to a draw for second consecutive match

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | For the second consecutive match Alabama State played to a 110-minute draw, this time a 2-2 draw against crosstown foe Faulkner on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kassidy Taylor put Faulkner on the board early in the contest with an unassisted goal in the 16th minute for a 1-0 lead.
  • Alabama State answered just 15 seconds later when Isabella Beortegui (Santa Ana, Calif.) took a feed from Alexa Delong (Williamston, Mich.) for the 1-1 tie.
  • Faulkner took the lead into half when Annabel Cuthbert scored unassisted for a 2-1 lead, but it took Alabama State just three minutes into overtime for Camila Jimenez (Weston, Fla.) to equalize the match on an assist from Beortegui and Sunny Bowlin-Stacy (Anchorage, Alaska) for the final goal of the match.
BY THE NUMBERS
  • In a stark contrast to Friday night when Alabama State was outshot, the Lady Hornets outshot Faulkner 40-21 in the match with three players recording seven or more shots in the match.
  • Beortegui and Jimenez each attempted eight shots on goal including four on goal, while McKenna Wiscombe (Orem, Utah) attempted seven shots.
  • Grace Norbury (Melbourne, Australia) attempted five shots on the day, with the Lady Hornets getting 15 of the 41 on target.

QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH JODIE SMITH
"Today was a tough day mentally for us after coming back from the big match on Friday. We never seemed to settle into the match, and certainly lacked composure on the ball and in front of the goal. We just need to regroup, rest up, and look forward to playing a talented Lipscomb team on Friday."

UP NEXT
Alabama State returns to the ASU Soccer Complex for their final non-conference match of the season, facing Lipscomb on Friday night at 6 pm. Admission is free; however, Alabama State is a mask-mandatory campus and masks must be worn at all times.
