MONTGOMERY, Ala. |Â Alabama State will travel for their fourth and final weekend road tournament in as many weeks to open the season as they travel to take part in the GATA Challenge hosted by Georgia Southern in the Hanner Fieldhouse.
The Lady Hornets will take on Georgia Southern on Friday at 10 am for their second consecutive game on ESPN+, followed by a matchup against USC-Upstate – the teams' second meeting of the year – at 4 pm. Alabama State will conclude the tournament and their opening season road stretch as they face off against Mercer at 10 am Saturday morning.

GAME NOTES
- The three-game GATA Challenge over the weekend will conclude a stretch of 13 straight road games to open 2021 for Alabama State. The Hornets will host Alabama A&M in their season opener on September 24.
- Junior Kalysia Bates (Phenix City, Ala.) currently leads the team with 88 total points and 16 aces, while also being second in kills (58) and blocks (21.0).
- Two Tallahassee natives have also provided offense for the Hornets, in sophomores A'Nylah Cobb and Jada Rhodes. Rhodes (60 kills / 56 digs / 5 blocks / 66.0 points) leads the Hornets in both kills and digs, while Cobb (49 kills / 47 digs / 6 blocks / 55.0 points) has provided much needed depth in her five starts on the year.
- The Hornets have two setters with nearly 250 assists combined, with sophomore Madison Beasley (Gilbert, Ariz.) and senior McKenzie Boland (Stockbridge, Ga.). Beasley is currently leading the team in assists with 153, while also adding 43 digs and six aces. Boland has logged 93 assists and added seven aces.
