MONTGOMERY, Ala. |Â Alabama State extended their home winning streak inside the Dunn-Oliver Acadome on Monday evening with a 73-57 victory against Florida A&M in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action.

Alabama State (7-11, 6-3 SWAC) never trailed in the contest, leading from the first score just 20 seconds into the game all the way through, including their largest lead of 22 points in the fourth quarter.

After a close opening quarter, the Hornets stifled the Rattlers in the second, holding them to five points and shooting just 10 (1-of-10) percent from the field in the frame before heading into the locker rooms at half leading 32-19.

Alabama State continued to control the momentum in the second half, outscoring Florida A&M 18-15 in the third and taking the win. The Hornets outperformed the Rattlers in all major statistical categories, including bench points (25-21), fast break (6-5), second chance scoring (23-10), points in the paint (38-20), and points off turnovers (17-15).

Shmya Ward (Memphis, Tenn.) was the lone double-digit scorer for Alabama State, finishing with 19 points, three rebounds and two assists.
Jayla Crawford (Birmingham, Ala.) and
Tamia Stallings (Brookhaven, Miss.) added eight points each, in a game where all but two Hornets scored in the ball game.

Florida A&M had two double-figure scorers, led by Anisja Harris with 23 points and five rebounds, followed by Tia Bradshaw who added 16 points on the evening.

UP NEXT
Alabama State will travel to Grambling for their next game, scheduled for Saturday, February 5 at 12 pm. They face Southern on Monday, February 7 to complete the road trip.
