@BamaStateFB Great Defensive Performance Not Enough as the Hornets Fall in the Final Seconds to FAMU

MONTGOMERY, Ala. |  Cail Jackson Jr. tallied two interceptions in the red zone and a blocked punt return for a touchdown but the Alabama State (6-4, 4-3 SWAC) football team fell short to Florida A&M (8-2, 6-1 SWAC) 21-14 on Saturday, November 12, at New ASU Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • FAMU's Jeremy Moussa found Xavier Smith for an eight-yard touchdown pass to put the Rattlers ahead 7-0 with six minutes left to play in the first quarter. 
  • Alabama State evened the score at seven apiece with 2:33 left in the first half on a 37-yard lateral pass from Isaiah Scott to Kisean Johnson.
  • Jose-Romo Martinez missed a 48-yard attempt as time expired in the first half to send both teams into the locker room tied at 7-7. 
  • Isaiah Land secured a safety for Florida A&M with seven minutes to play in the third quarter to put the Rattlers in front 9-7. 
  • Cail Jackson Jr. returned a blocked punt 50 yards to give the Hornets a 14-9 advantage with 7:46 left in the fourth quarter.
  • Jeremy Moussa delivered a 17-yard strike to Jah'Marae Sheread to give FAMU a 15-14 edge late in the fourth quarter.
  • FAMU sealed the victory on a blocked FG from the 52-yard line and returned it 49 yards to take a 21-14 lead as time expired.
OFFENSIVE NOTABLES
  • The Hornets got on the board with a flea-flicker from wideout Isaiah Scott to Kisean Johnson for a 37-yard touchdown in the 2nd quarter. 
  • Wideout Kisean Johnson was the leading receiver with 69 yards and 5 receptions. 
  • Halfback Santo Dunn was the team-leading rusher with 37 yards. 
DEFENSIVE NOTABLES
  • The Hornets recorded three interceptions in the red zone. Safety Chauncey Moore recorded the first. Defensive back Cail Jackson recorded two. Both are each other's first of the season. 
  • Linebacker Colton Adams recorded 14 tackles and surpassed the century mark in tackles (104) for the year. 
  • Kayion McCluster recorded a season-high seven tackles.

SPECIAL TEAMS NOTABLES
  • Wideout Tyrese Sanders blocked the Rattlers' punt in the 4th quarter, where Cail Jackson scooped-and-scored for a 50-yard touchdown. 
  • Rattler linebacker Kendall Bohler blocked the game-winning field goal to end the game. 
OTHER NOTABLES
  • This is Colton Adams 4th game with double-digit tackles. 
  • Myles Crawley entered the game for starting quarterback Dematrius Davis with 4:24 left in the 4th quarter. 
  • This is the Hornets first game of the season with three-or-more turnovers.
