Range Nets Career-High in Loss To San Jose State

SAN JOSE, Calif. | Despite a career-high 18 points from Isaiah Range, it was a cold shooting second half that spelled doom for the Alabama State University (0-3) men's basketball team in a 70-57 loss to San Jose State University (3-0) on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022.
 
After shooting 54 percent in the first half, the Hornets shot 20 percent and went 1-for-7 from 3-point range in the second half.

 HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Alabama State started the game 4-of-5 from the floor as Duane Posey and Eric Coleman combined for seven points to give the Hornets an early 9-0 lead. 
  • The Spartans cut the deficit to 9-7 as the Hornets endured a 3:01 scoring drought with 14:13 left in the opening half. 
  • A Range layup and a TJ Madlock 3-pointer pushed the lead to 14-9 at the 11:58 mark of the first half. 
  • The Hornets made seven of their next eight shots to build a 24-19 lead following a Posey dunk and a Range layup with 7:09 to go in the first half. 
  • A 12-2 San Jose State run gave the Spartans their first lead at 28-26 with 3:26 to go before halftime. 
  • Omari Moore's layup with six seconds left gave SJSU a 36-33 halftime lead. 
  • Alabama State started 0-for-7 from the floor but was 4-for-4 from the charity stripe to trail 40-37 with just over three minutes gone off the second half clock.
  • Alex Anderson connected on a 3-pointer and made a free throw to cut SJSU's lead to 44-41 with 14:21 left in the second half. 
  • The Spartans made 4-of-5 field goals while the Hornets were 1-for-8 during a 2:01 scoring drought that led 54-43 SJSU lead with 10:15 to go.
  • A pair of Posey free throws drew the Hornets to within 59-49 at the 9:01 mark. 
  • Sage Tolbert made two free throws, and Moore dialed up a 3-pointer that gave SJSU its largest lead at 68-51 with 3:18 left in the contest. 
  • Alabama State went on a 6-0 run to close the Spartans' lead to 68-57 after a pair of Roland McCoy free throws with :50 to go.
  • That was as close as the Hornets would climb SJSU went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line to hold off the Hornets.

  • Range had 18 points on 8-fo-17 shooting with one assist and one block. 
  • Anderson followed Range with 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting and five rebounds. 
  • The Hornets committed a season-low five turnovers and turned 13 SJSU turnovers into 12 points.
