Hornets Volleyball Falls Short in the SWAC Championship Game to Florida A&M

HOUSTON, Texas | Despite 10 kills apiece from Jada Rhodes and A'Nylah Cobb, the Alabama State women's volleyball team fell short in the SWAC Championship game 3-0 to Florida A&M.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Florida A&M held an early 9-6 advantage in the opening set before Alabama State put together a 5-0 scoring run to regain the lead at 11-9.
  • Both teams traded points back and forth but Florida A&M prevailed to take the first set 25-22 and jump out to a 1-0 lead.
  • The Rattlers committed two errors to help the Lady Hornets jump out to a 2-1 advantage in the second frame. 
  • Despite five kills from A'Nylah Cobb in set two, Florida A&M claimed the second set 25-19 and extended their match advantage to 2-0.
  • Alabama State fell behind 17-13 in set three but was able to put together a 4-0 run to even the score at 17 apiece.
  • Despite pushing a deuce point, Alabama State fell short to Florida A&M 26-24 as the Rattlers secured the sweep.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
  • Alabama State logged 40 kills on 108 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .213.
  • Jada Rhodes and A'Nylah Cobb led the Lady Hornets in kills with 10 apiece. Cobb finished with an attack percentage of .400 while Rhodes logged a .128.
  • Kalysia Bates registered nine total kills, six digs, and one service ace on the day.
  • Madison Beasley (18) and Emily Brooks (16) combined for 34 assists at setter for Alabama State.
  • Temperance Chatman tallied 11 digs and three assists.
Despite the loss, Jada Rhodes, A'Nylah Cobb and ,Kalysia Bates were named to the All-Tournament team.
