ATHENS, Ohio | The Alabama State University men's basketball team got career-highs from Amarr Knox and Alex Anderson to upend Eastern Illinois University 67-58 in the Bobcat Battle on Saturday.
 
Knox scored 18 points while Anderson added 15 to give first-year Head Coach Tony Madlock his first win at helm of the Alabama State program.

 HOW IT HAPPENED

• An Amarr Knox 3-pointer and a layup at the 13:11 mark of the first half gave the Hornets a 13-6 lead. 
• Alex Anderson's 3-pointer put ASU up 16-10 before EIU fought back to tie the game 19-19 with 7:58 remaining. 
• The Hornets built a 30-23 lead on baskets by TJ Madlock and know layup with under three minutes to go before halftime. 
• Alex Anderson layup to push the lead to 35-26 with 42 second left, only to see a Kyle Carlesimo three cut the lead to 35-29. 
• A Jordan O'Neal free throw with no time on the clock sent the Hornets into halftime with a 36-29 advantage. 
• Knox and Anderson led ASU's first half scoring with 14 and 10 points, respectively, while ASU held a 26-16 edge on the boards. 
• The Panthers started the second half on a 6-0 run to cut the ASU lead to 36-35 just over two minutes into the second half.
• Anderson made a 3-pointer, and an O'Neal layup extended the lead to 43-37 with under 16:00 left in the second half.
• A 5-0 run by EIU cut the ASU lead down to two at 48-46 with 11:05 left in the second half. 
• Roland McCoy's 3-pointer and a dunk by Duane Posey gave ASU a 53-48 advantage with 7:59 to go.
• An Anderson layup and a free throw by O'Neal gave ASU a 59-52 lead at the 4:14 mark. 
• Knox made a driving layup, and a Range three extended the lead to 64-56 with 1:32 left in the game. 
• ASU made 3-of-4 free throws in the final minute to hold on for 67-58 win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Alabama State entered the game with a SWAC-Best 90 offensive rebounds, adding 18 offensive rebounds to the total.
• Knox finished with a career-high 18 points, scoring in double figures for the third time this season.
• Anderson scored in double figures for the third time this season, finishing with a career-best 15 points.
• Posey wiped the glass for a season-high eight reobunds followed by Anderson with seven.
• ASU outrebounded EIU 45-36 and scored 16 points off 13 EIU turnovers. 
• Caleb Donaldson and Kyle Hodges led EIU with 12 points. 
• Nick Ellington grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for the Panthers.
