Hornets drop season-opener to Troy

MONTGOMERY Ala. | Alabama State dropped their season opener to Troy 7-0 on Tuesday afternoon at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center.

Alabama State (0-1) dropped the doubles' point after Troy (5-2) completed the sweep despite the number one team of Juan Rodriguez (Concordia, Argentina) and Chris Andre (Berlin, Germany) battling to a 6-4 loss. In singles play, three matches went to three sets, and another was decided in the second set on a late break.

Samrakshyak Bajracharya (Katmandu, Nepal) dropped a 6-7, 6-1, 7-10 match to Troy's Noah Martens at number three; while Rodriguez dropped a three-set match to Nicolas Simkin at number four 1-6, 6-3, 6-7. The three-set matches continued at number six where Kristofer Johnson (Bromley, UK) fell to Vito Llinares 6-4, 0-6, 2-6.

UP NEXT
Alabama State was scheduled to face Columbus State on Friday; however, the match has been rescheduled to February 9 due to weather predicted for central Alabama.
