MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State (1-1) split a doubleheader on opening day of their 2022 season as they defeated Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne 7-0, before falling to Austin Peay State 6-0 at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex.

The Lady Hornets got on the board in the first inning after
Kindall DeRamus (Helena, Ala.) scored off a single from
Alex Preston (Stockton, Calif.). After a scoreless inning in the second,
Zoee Disroe (Lilburn, Ga.) singled to bring home
Madison Myers (Brownsville, Tenn.) to put the score at 2-0.
Alabama State broke the game open in the bottom half of the fourth, adding four runs after a bases loaded triple from
Bailey Greenlee (Snohomish, Wash.) to bring home
Kiana Parrish (Stockton, Calif.)
Alexia Denby (Murrieta, Calif.), and
Arianna Atchley (Millbrook, Ala.) to go up 5-0.

Greenlee scored later in the inning and doubled in the fifth to bring home the final run for the 7-0 score. She also dominated in the circle, pitching a complete game in her Alabama State debut, striking out 17 batters and allowing just two hits and two walks on the day.

DeRamus also fared well in the season opener, going 3-for-4 from the plate and scoring a run, followed by Myers who went 2-for-3 to go along with a score and an RBI. Four other Hornets had at least one hit against the Mastodons for a total of 11 hits on the afternoon.
Austin Peay State 6, Alabama State 0
Olivia Brown (Bonaire, Ga.) made her collegiate pitching debut in game two and held the Governors scoreless for the first two innings before an RBI double in the third.

Austin Peay added another score in the fourth, followed by three more runs in the fifth off for the 6-0 final.
Brown (0-1) pitched 4.0 innings, surrendering four hits, three runs and a walk in her appearance, while
Ashley Pye (Stockton, Calif.) pitched for 3.0 innings and allowed three hits, three runs and three walks in her debut out of the bullpen.

Jaeda Gardner (Pike Road, Ala.) and Greenlee were the lone Hornets to record a hit in the second game, as Samantha Meiner (1-0) pitched a complete game, walking just two batters.
Alabama State will return on Saturday to play their final two games of the tournament, starting at 1:30 with a rematch against Austin Peay and 4:30 pm against the College of Charleston.
