Alabama State falters down the stretch in loss to UAPB

Hornets shoot just over 50 percent from the free throw line in the loss

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State trailed by as many as seven in the second half to UAPB and fought their way back into the contest, however, the Golden Lions were able to hit the offensive glass and hold off Alabama State 75-70 at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome on Saturday.

The win by the Golden Lions gives them the series sweep over Alabama State and the tiebreaker heading down the stretch with six games remaining, with the two teams tied in the conference standings.

Alabama State was able to pull to within a point at 64-63 with just under four minutes remaining in the game on a Kenny Strawbridge (Rockford, Ill.) jumper, before UAPB pushed the lead to five at 68-63 on free throws and a dunk following an offensive rebound. The Hornets pulled back to within one at 68-67 following five consecutive points from E.J. Clark (Dallas, Texas) with two minutes remaining in the game.
