Alabama State drops a pair of road games at Mississippi State

STARKVILLE, Miss. | Alabama State (2-4) dropped a pair of non-conference games to SEC opponent Mississippi State on Wednesday afternoon inside Nusz Park, falling 10-4 in game one and 8-0 in the second.

Mississippi State jumped on top in the bottom of the first with an RBI double from Mia Davidson, followed by a single to score Davidson. They later scored their final run of the frame on a sacrifice fly to center field.
 
After adding another run in the second, the Bulldogs extended their lead again in the bottom of the fourth, scoring five runs, however Alabama State reduced the lead with four runs in the fifth.
 
After three walks to load the bases to start the inning, Kindal DeRamus (Helena, Ala.) doubled to left center to score Arianna Atchley (Millbrook, Ala.), Zoee Disroe (Lilburn, Ga.), and Elizabeth Williams (Enterprise, Ala.). Two batters later, Alex Preston (Tracy, Calif.) singled to right field to drive in DeRamus.
 
Elle Lunsford (Lawrenceville, Ga.) started the day off for the Hornets, working three innings and allowed seven hits, while fellow freshman Ashley Pye (Stockton, Calif.) worked the remaining three innings, allowing three hits.

Mississippi State 8, Alabama State 0 (6 Inn.)
Mississippi State was able to get on the board first once again with three runs in the second inning of game two. The Bulldogs added another run in the fifth off a home run from Aquana Brownlee and secured the win with four in the sixth inning.

The Lady Hornets pounded out four hits in the finale, with Preston picking up a pair, followed by DeRamus and Jazmine Dodd (Bentonville, Ark.) who added one each.
 
Bailey Greenlee (Snohomish, Wash.) pitched five innings in the circle, allowing four hits in 26 batters faced, while Olivia Brown (Bonaire, Ga.) pitched in relief.
