Alabama State prepares for single game this weekend with rivalry battle in Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | Alabama State will play in their third straight road game with a trip north to face Alabama A&M on Saturday for a 2 pm tip inside of the Elmore Gymnasium for Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action.

GAME NOTES
  • The matchup on Saturday is the 60th game in the all-time series dating back to the 1981-82 season. Head Coach Freda Freeman-Jackson is 31-17 during her tenure, including a 15-10 current record in games in Huntsville.
  • Alabama State won the previous meeting between the two programs this season, defeating the Bulldogs 74-69 in the Dunn-Oliver Acadome (Jan. 15). They also won the last game played in Huntsville with a 60-46 win on January 14, 2019.
  • Saturday's matchup is also a meeting of top five teams in the conference, as Alabama State is currently second in the standings at 11-4, followed by Alabama A&M in third at 10-5.
  • The Hornets are looking to extend their five-game win streak, as their last loss was a road game against Grambling State (Feb. 5). The Hornets have defeated Southern (Feb. 7), Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Feb. 12), Mississippi Valley State (Feb. 14), Florida A&M (Feb. 19) and Bethune-Cookman (Feb. 21) over the span.
  • Ayana Emmanuel (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), the reigning SWAC Player of the Week has averaged 34 points, 4.5 rebounds and three steals over her last two games, including a career-high 41 points and 17 made free throws in the overtime win over Bethune-Cookman.
  • Alabama A&M is 12-13 overall and 10-5 in conference play so far and are coming in on a win streak of their own at four games. They are currently 4-3 in games featured in the Elmore Gymnasium.
  • The Bulldogs are led by All-SWAC performers in Nigeria Jones at 14.4 points, 3.6 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game, followed by Dariauna Lewis at 14.2 points, 11.2 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per contest.
