MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State won their first weekend series of the season with a 3-2 victory over UT-Martin, completing the doubleheader sweep at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex on Saturday night.
The two teams were forced to play a doubleheader on Saturday due to the chance of rain in central Alabama on Sunday, and Alabama State (3-5) did not disappoint as they put 16 runs combined on the scoreboard.
Austin King (Fulton, Miss.) got his second start of the season and went 5.1 innings on the mound. King (1-1) picked up his first win since March 19, 2021, striking out two
. Kyler McIntosh (Columbus, Ind.) picked up his first save of the season, working 4.0 innings and allowing just one run off three hits. Alabama State picked up seven hits in the series finale, with
Chris Lewis (Alabaster, Ala.) picking up two.
The Hornets return to action on Tuesday against Auburn on the road, with first pitch set for 6 pm.

- B1 | Lewis singled through the right side driving in Corey King (Lithonia, Ga.) with the game's first run, before Cristopher DeGuzman (Fajardo, PR) singled through the right side for an early two-run lead (2-0, Alabama State).
- B2 | King drove in a run with a sacrifice fly (3-0, Alabama State).
- T3 | UT-Martin got on the board for the first time since late Friday night with a solo home run (3-1, Alabama State).
- T6 | The Skyhawks used a sacrifice fly to drive in their second run of the game (3-2, Alabama State).
Postgame Notes
- The series win is the first this season for Alabama State, and their first true weekend series of 2022 after opening at the Andre Dawson Classic.
- The Hornets held UT-Martin scoreless 15 consecutive innings until they were able to score in the third.
