MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Elle Lunsford (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and
Bailey Greenlee (Snohomish, Wash.) combined to hold Alabama A&M to just three hits as Alabama State ended the HBCU Celebration Tournament with a 3-1 victory at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex on Sunday night.
Lunsford (1-1) allowed just three hits in 4.0 innings of work in the start with four strikeouts, while Greenlee pitched the final inning and did not allow a baserunner.
Kindall DeRamus (Helena, Ala.) finished the night 3-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in and runs scored, while
Jamaica Flowers (Montgomery, Ala.) finished 2-for-2 with three runs driven and a pair of runs scored.
Alabama State returns to action on Tuesday afternoon against ULM at home with first pitch scheduled for 2 pm.
How It Happened
- B2 | Flowers drove in the game's first run when she singled up the middle to score Alex Preston (Stockton, Calif.), before DeRamus singled to short and extended the lead (2-0, Alabama State).
- B3 | Arianna Atchley (Millbrook, Ala.) started the scoring for Alabama State in the inning with an RBI double before Kat McGlamry (Crawfordville, Fla.) laid down a sacrifice bunt that was thrown away to bring home the fourth run of the game. The inning continued with RBI singles by Flowers and DeRamus before Alex Massie (Pottsboro, Texas) reached on an error that brought home the final run of the inning (8-0, Alabama State).
- T4 | Alabama A&M was able to get on the board with an RBI single through the right side (8-1, Alabama State).
- B5 | The Hornets ended the game on a Jaeda Gardner (Pike Road, Ala.) groundout to third that allowed DeRamus to score (9-1, Alabama State).
Postgame Notes
- Alabama State pounded out 11 hits with three players each picking up multiple hits.
- Preston celebrated her birthday by finishing the day 2-for-2 with a run scored.
