DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. | Alabama State took the series opening game against Bethune-Cookman with a 3-2 win on Friday at Sunnyland Park in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play on Friday. The Hornets trailed by a run heading into the seventh before scoring a pair of runs in the come from behind to win.
Kindall DeRamus (Helena, Ala.) and
Jazmine Dodd (Bentonville, Ark.) led Alabama State, both recording two hits and a run scored on the day. Four other Hornets recorded a hit in the contest, including
Alex Massie (Pottsboro, Texas) who went 1-for-3 with an RBI and
Bailey Greenlee (Snohomish, Wash.) who went 1-for-2 with a run scored.
Greenlee (8-7) earned the win in the circle, pitching a complete game and allowing five hits and two runs to the Wildcats, while striking out three.
How It Happened
- B3 | Bethune-Cookman scored first after two scoreless innings, earning three hits to score a pair of runs on a two RBI single (2-0, Bethune-Cookman).
- T5 | Massie put the Hornets on the board in the fifth after a double to right scored Dodd, who singled earlier in the inning (2-1, Bethune-Cookman).
- T7 | After consecutive hits from the Hornets to open the inning, Greenlee tied the game after scoring on a wild pitch. Dodd drove in the run to take the lead on a sacrifice fly to bring in DeRamus (3-2 Alabama State).
- B7 | Greenlee retired the side, forcing two line drives to third base and a groundout to first to close out the game.
