MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Jayla Crawford led a pair of players in double figures, but it wasn't enough as a late push from Grambling State downed the Hornets 64-56 in the regular season finale at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome on Saturday afternoon.
Alabama State (13-14, 11-6) await their opponent and their seeding for the upcoming Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament (SWAC) next week in Birmingham.
Crawford led Alabama State with 25 points, knocking down 8-of-15 from the floor including four three pointers. She also connected on 5-of-6 from the free throw line and five rebounds.
Shmya Ward added 17 points and seven rebounds in the loss, while
Ayana Emmanuel had her streak of double-digit games snapped by being held to just four points but picking up 11 rebounds.
Alabama State finished the night shooting 32.7 (18-of-55) percent from the floor and 30.8 (4-of-13) percent from beyond the arc, while shooting just 64.0 (16-of-25) percent from the free throw line. Meanwhile, Grambling State (13-16, 10-8 SWAC) finished the night shooting 38.5 (25-of-65) percent from the floor and just 12.5 (2-of-16) percent from beyond the arc.
The Tigers were led by Alexus Holt with 21 points, while Ariel Williams added 18 and Justice Coleman 14.
