@BamaStateSports Claims First SWAC All-Academic Achievement Award

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Alabama State University claimed the 2021-22 All-Academic Achievement Award, with 64 percent of its student-athletes posting the minimum 3.0 GPA or better across the two semesters. The distinction was announced by the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) on Wednesday, Aug. 10, from the league office in Birmingham, Alabama.

Under the leadership of Director of Athletics Dr. Jason Cable, Alabama State student-athletes continue to excel in the classroom.

The academic success of our student-athletes is the primary focus of our mission at Alabama State University. We are excited to receive this prestigious honor from the SWAC office, recognizing our student-athletes academic achievement. The commitment and dedication of our administration, student-athletes, coaches, and academic support staff combined with focused initiatives continue to propel our student-athletes to academic success," said Athletic Director Dr. Jason Cable.

The SWAC All-Academic Achievement Award is presented to the athletic program with the highest percentage of student-athletes that earned a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better during the 2021-22 academic year. During the academic year, a total of 183 Alabama State student-athletes achieved grade point averages of 3.00 or better. In July, those student-athletes were recognized by the SWAC office and named to the 2021-22 SWAC Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Senior Associate AD of Student-Athlete Experience/SWA Dr. Genese Lavalais stated, "We are incredibly proud of our student-athletes commitment to their educational pursuits. Leading the conference in the All-Academic achievement category takes dedication and hard work. We are thankful for the ASU village (academic staff, administrators, coaches, faculty, and staff) that keeps the students on track and support their efforts".
