Men's Tennis Falls to Kennesaw State in Home Opener

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | In the 2023 home opener, the Alabama State men's tennis team dropped a narrow 4-3 match to the Kennesaw State Owls on Friday, January 20, 2023, at Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center.

DOUBLES PLAY

The duo of Samrakshyak Bajracharya and David Jeanne Grandinot saw success in a 6-1 victory over Raul Garcia and Seru Tezuka to open the day for ASU. The Hornets followed up with another win after Matis Amier and Alexandre Verlaguet downed Kevin Patel and Anthony Weingarten 6-2. 

SINGLES PLAY

Ruan Du Preez dropped the first singles point to Harvey Conway 6-2, 6-2 followed by Alexandre Verlaguet falling short 6-1, 6-3 to Anthony Weingarten. Samrakshyak Bajracharya lost to Hugo Salmeron 6-2, 6-4 while Matis Amier dropped his singles match to Seru Tezuka 6-3, 6-3. Kristofer Johnson was one of two Hornets to see success in singles play as won a third-set tiebreaker over Kevin Patel 4-6, 6-4, 10-4. David Jeanne Grandinot finished off with a 7-5, 7-6 win over Raul Garcia.

The Alabama State men's returns to action on Sunday (Jan. 22) as they hit the road to face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at 2:00 p.m. at Ken Byers Tennis Complex.
