@BamaStateWBB Falls on the Road to Bethune-Cookman Despite Game-High 28 Points from Crawford

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. | Jayla Crawford registered a game-high 28 points but the Alabama State women's basketball team dropped a narrow 69-66 heartbreaker to the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats on Saturday afternoon inside Moore Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Bethune Cookman jumped out to an early 7-2 lead at the 7:32 mark in the third.
  • Ayana Emmanuel scored 13 straight points for the Lady Hornets to ASU in front 15-9 with 4:09 left to play in the first frame. 
  • At the end of one, Alabama State held a 19-11 advantage over Bethune-Cookman.
  • The Lady Wildcats opened up an 11-1 run to take a 22-20 lead with 3:45 left until intermission.
  • Jayla Crawford scored ASU's final 10 points of the half to give the Lady Hornets a 32-30 lead heading into the locker room.
  • BCU took a 36-34 lead at the 8:07 mark in the third.
  • Crawford finished with 11 third-quarter points but the Lady Hornets fell behind 47-46 heading into the final quarter.
  • Emmanuel tied the score at 47 apiece with a free throw to open up the fourth quarter.
  • Both teams traded baskets back and forth until Bethune-Cookman edged out a 69-66 win over Alabama State.

  • Jayla Crawford scored a game-high 28 points on 47 percent (8-17) shooting from the floor, 44.4 percent (4-9) from downtown, and 88 percent (8-9) from the foul line. 
  • Ayana Emmanuel logged 17 points on 50 percent (5-10) from the field, 66 percent (2-3) from three, and 5-of-7 from the charity stripe.
  • Shmya Ward posted a double-double performance with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Dakiyah Sanders led the way in assists with two on the day.
  • Alabama State shot 40 percent from the field, 46.7 percent from downtown, and 76 percent from the charity stripe.
  • There were 15 lead changes during Saturday afternoon's matchup.
