LORMAN, Miss. | Shmya Ward, Ayana Emmanuel, Jayla Crawford, and Cordasia Harris scored in double figures as the Alabama State University women's basketball team escaped with a 93-81 win over Alcorn State University on Monday at the Davey L. Whitney Complex. 
 
Ward led the way with 27 points, followed by Emmanuel with 22 points. Jayla Crawford scored 17 to eclipse the 1,500 career-point mark at Alabama State. Harris chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds.

 HOW IT HAPPENED 

• Alcorn State held a 20-11 after Destiny Brown made two free throws with 1:42 left in the opening quarter. 
• Alabama State went on a 9-0 run to tie the game on a Ward layup heading into the second quarter.
• Samaya Steele hit a 3-pointer followed by a Harris free throw gave the Lady Hornets a 34-28 lead midway through the second quarter. 
• A Steele 3-pointer with under a minute to play gave the Lady Hornets a 44-39 halftime advantage.
• A 7-0 run to start the second half helped Alabama State open up a 50-39 lead 1:23 into the third quarter 
• The Hornets held a 55-45 lead before an 8-0 run by the Lady Braves cut the ASU lead to 55-53 at the 4:13 mark. 
• Zy'Niya White's 3-pointer at the third-quarter buzzer gave Alcorn State a 59-54 lead. 
• Brown grew the Lady Braves' lead to a seven-point lead at 71-64 to open the fourth quarter.
• The Lady Hornets battled back to tie the game 77-77 with 5:30 remaining in the fourth quarter. 
• Trailing 86-84, Emmanuel dialed long distance to put ASU back in front 87-86 with under 2:00 to go. 
• The Lady Hornets would hold a 93-91 lead following a DaKiyah Sanders free throw with two seconds left. 
• Cayla Obillo's just missed a half-court shot at the buzzer as Alabama State held on for the win.
