Lady Hornets rally for 3-1 win over FAMU

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State rallied from one set to earn a 3-1 win over (20-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-16) Florida A&M in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play on Friday night at Lockhart Gym.

Jada Rhodes led the three Lady Hornets with double figure kills, recording 18 kills, giving her 917 career kills moving her into sixth place all-time at Alabama State. Taila Gaines had 11 kills and A'Nylah Cobb posted 10.  
 
Emily Brooks had 26 assists for Alabama State (10-12, 9-0 SWAC) followed by Madison Beasley with 23. Temperance Chatman had 18 digs as the only Lady Hornet in double-figures.
 
The Lady Hornets finished the match with a .305 attack percentage and a 71 side out percentage.
   
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Rattlers used a 7-1 run to build a 15-8 lead in the first set to take a 1-0 lead. Alabama State closed the gap to 21-19 after kill by Christyn Ashby. FAMU closed the set on a 4-1 run to take the set 25-20.  The Hornets hit a .185 hitting percentage in the set to FAMU's .345.
 
SET 2 | Alabama State jumped out to a 10-4 lead following a Rhodes ace before expanding the lead to 12-5 off kills from Kaylen Hines and Gaines.  FAMU fought back to 14-12 using a 7-2 run. A 5-0 run got put the Hornets up 24-18 before Rhodes ended the set, 25-18.
 
SET 3 | The teams traded points to a 4-4 tie before Alabama State won the next four points to open up an 8-4 lead and an 8-1 run put the Hornets up 19-8. Cobb's kill put the Hornets at set point before ASU closed out the set 25-16.
 
SET 4 | Alabama State stretched a 6-4 lead into a 13-8 lead with a 7-4 run and gained a 19-11 lead on a Rhodes kill. Cobb's final kill of the night ended the set and the match 25-16.

Alabama State remains home against Bethune-Cookman at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Lockhart Gymnasium.
