Harris records double-double in Alabama State's 88-42 loss to Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. --Cordasia Harris registered a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds as the Alabama State women's basketball team fell to the Vanderbilt Commodores 88-42 on Monday Memorial Gym.

The Hornets (0-6) had two players score in double figures, led by Harris, who notched a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Whitney Dunn added 11 points and Kristian Jackson added five steals.

Alabama State out-rebounded Vanderbilt 38-32 in Monday's game, led by Harris' 12 boards. The Hornets also collected 18 offensive rebounds and scored 11 second chance points.

The Alabama State defense caused its share of mistakes in Monday's game, forcing 16 Vanderbilt turnovers. Those takeaways turned into eight points on the other end of the floor. Jackson's five steals led the way individually for the Hornets.

How It Happened

Alabama State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 36-10 at the end of the first quarter.

The Hornets and Commodores then played an even second quarter making the halftime score 44-18 in favor of Vanderbilt.

Alabama State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Hornets faced a 64-34 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Alabama State took advantage of six Vanderbilt turnovers in the quarter, scoring six points off of takeaways.

Alabama State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 88-42. Alabama State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring four of its eight points in the paint.
