Eight Hornets earn All-SWAC postseason football honors

BIRMINGHAM Ala. | Alabama State University had eight players named to the All-SWAC Football Postseason teams announced on Monday, November 27, 2023.
 
Colton Adams (LB), Kisean Johnson (WR) and Robert Alston IV (OL) represented the Hornets as All-SWAC First-Team selections. Dominic Boyd (OL), Arelious Dunn (OL), Treqwan Thomas (DL), Mikey Victor and Robert McMinn earned second-team laurels.
 
Adams led the Hornet with 124 tackles, 17 tackles for loss and had four sacks. The Wetumpka, Ala., native leads the SWAC and ranks sixth in the FSC with 11.4 tackles per while ranking third in the SWAC and 10th in FCS with 5.2 tackles for loss per game.
 
Alston moves up the All-SWAC First-Team after earning second-team honors the previous two seasons, while Boyd and Dunn make their first appearance on the All-SWAC squads All three started all 11 games on an offensive line that allowed the fewest sacks at 1.6 per game. The Hornets front allowed just four sacks over the final seven games, including a stretch of five straight games without a sack.
 
Johnson was the top target for Hornet signal callers this season. Johnson led the SWAC in receiving yards (819/24th FCS), receiving yards per game (81.9/18th FCS), receptions per game (6.2/15th FSC) and receiving touchdowns (7). The Birmingham, Ala., native also ranked fourth in the SWAC scoring (4.8 ppg.) and fourth in total touchdowns (8).
 
Thomas led the Hornets and tied for third in the SWAC with 7.5 sacks tied for sixth with 12.5 tackles for loss. He also totaled 35 tackles and a fumble recovery. Thomas ranked seventh in the SWAC in sacks per game (0.5) and eighth in tackles for loss (1.0).
 
Victor led the SWAC and ranked second in the FCS with 1.7 passes defended per game. He totaled 36 tackles and led the SWAC with 15 passes defended 13 passes defection, and two interceptions.
 
McMinn was tops in the SWAC with 579 combined kick return yards (14th FCS). He returned one punt and kickoff a touchdown, ranking first in the SWAC and fourth in the FCS. McMinn's 13.9 yards per return ranked third in the SWAC and seventh in the FCS.
 
The Hornets went 6-1 over the final seven games to finish 7-4 overall and finished second in the SWAC East with a 5-3 mark.
