Anderson's Career-High Leads Hornets To Second Straight Win

PINE BLUFF, Ark. | Alex Anderson scored a career-high 29 points as the Alabama State University men's basketball team claimed their second straight win with a 74-71 win over the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday at May Fieldhouse.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • The first half saw one tie and six lead changes over the first seven minutes. 
  • TJ Madlock gave the Hornets a 9-8 lead with 14:28 to go in the first half. 
  • UAPB went on a 6-0 run to take a 14-9 lead with just under 13 minutes left. 
  • Kylen Milton sank two free throws to put the Line ups 24-16 at the 7:24 mark of the opening half. 
  • A Kendal Parker 3-pointer cut the deficit to 24-21 during a 5-0 run with 6:29 remaining. 
  • Alabama State used an 11-0 run to build a 32-27 advantage following Alex Anderson's three with 2:23 left in the first half.  
  • Anderson finished the first half with 17 points while the Hornets shot 44 percent from the field and made four 3-pointers to hold a 35-32 halftime lead. 
  • The second half started like the first half one tie and six lead changes in the first six minutes. 
  • Down 41-39 the Hornets went on a 10-0 run to take a 49-41 lead after an Anderson 3-pointer with 12:56 left in the second half. 
  • The Lions countered with a 10-0 run to regain the lead at 51-49 midway through the second half.
  • A pair of Madlock free throws gave the Hornets a 66-60 lead at the 5:55 mark of the second half. 
  • Anderson made 1-of-2 free throws to give the Hornets a 74-71 lead with 25 seconds left.
  • UAPB missed a jumper on the final possession as the Hornets held on for the win. 
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Anderson poured in a career-high 29 points, making 11-of-18 shots with three assists and two steals.
  • Parker tossed in a career-high 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting. 
  • Jordan O'Neal also had 11 point, scoring seven points from the free throw line.
  • The Hornets went 19-of-24 from the charity stripe and have made 15-plus free throws for the third straight game and the ninth time this season.
  • Milton led three UAPB players in double figures, scoring 17 points and had five rebounds.
  • Chris Greene tallied 14 points, while Cameo Stokes and Shaun Doss Jr. added 12 points each.
  • The game saw 15 lead changes and 10 ties. 
  • Points in the paint were even, 28-28.
