Hornets Fall on the Road to Delta Devils

ITTA BENA, Miss. | The Alabama State University men's basketball team could not overcome a 13-point halftime deficit as Mississippi Valley State University held on for a 76-70 win on Monday at the Harrison HPER Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Jordan O'Neal gave the Hornets an early 5-4 lead before an 11-0 run gave MVSU a 14-6 lead with 14:35 to play in the first half. 
  • Alex Anderson made a layup to cut the MVSU lead to 21-17 with under nine minutes to go in the first half. 
  • MVSU outscored the Hornets 16-5 to take a 40-27 lead into halftime. 
  • The Hornets climb within six at 47-41 after a pair of O'Neal free throws five minutes into the second half. 
  • MVSU's lead hovered around 11 points before Damien Madison cut the deficit to 59-54 at the 8:38 mark. 
  • The Hornets cut the MVSU lead to 67-63 with 2:35 to go in the game on a 3-pointer by Roland McCoy
  • MVSU stretched the lead back to double digits following Kadar Waller free throws with 34 seconds left in the contest. 
  • Madlock made a layup to cut the final margin to 76-70 in the final 15 seconds.

  • Anderson led the Hornets scoring with 15 points. 
  • O'Neal added 14 points. 
  • Madlock finished with 13 points and team-high six rebounds. 
  • Alvin Stradic scored 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead four Delta Devils in double figures.
