MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Alex Preston delivered a walk-off RBI single to give the Alabama State University women's softball a 2-1 win over South Carolina State to open the HBCU Celebration Classic on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Alabama State loaded the bases in the top of the first but could not capitalize.
- Kindall DeRamus singled through the left side to score Jaeda Gardner to hand the Lady Hornets a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
- Destiny Calloway hit a solo home run to left field to tie the game 1-1 in the top of the fifth.
- ASU starter Bailee recorded a strikeout to strand the go ahead run at third to end the top of the fifth.
- DeRamus beat out an infield single to start the seventh. Alexia Denby double off the right field wall to set up Alex Preston's game-winning RBI single.
IN THE CIRCLE – GM 1
- Bailey Greenlee (4-1) struck out 14 hitters while allowing one run on four hits to earn her fourth straight win,
- Destiny Calloway (0-1) gave up one run on five hits to suffer the loss in relief of starter Kenniyah Miller.
INSIDE THE BOX
- DeRamus finished with two hits and one RBI.
- Greenlee, who was three strikeouts shy of tying her career-high, also collected three hits at the plate for the Lady Hornets.
- Preston finished 1-for-3 with the game-winning RBI
