MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Samford University used a six-run fifth inning to break open a one-run game en route to an 11-5 win over the Alabama State University softball team on Tuesday at SU Softball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- labama State scored three in the first and one in the second to build a 4-2 lead.
- Kiana Parns ris singled in two runs to highlight the top of the first.
- Alexia Denby singled in a run in the second inning.
- Samford scored two in the third, one in the fourth and six in the fifth to erase the two-run deficit and take an 11-4 lead
- Denby belted a solo home run in the top of the seventh to cap the scoring.
IN THE CIRCLE
- Olivia Brown (4-1) was saddled with the loss for ASU, allowing on unearned run on three hits in relief of starter Ashley Pye.
- Sara Bond (3-2) recorded seven strikeouts and gave up one run on three hits in 5.0 inning pitched to earn the win for SU.
INSIDE THE BOX
- Denby's home run in the seventh was her fifth-round tripper in four games. Denby finished 2-for-3 with two RBI.
- Parrish had a two-RBI single.
- Kindall DeRamus, Alex Preston, and Brooke Ramsey collected hits for the Lady Hornets.
