BATON ROUGE, La. | Alabama State University men's basketball team could dig out of an early double-digit deficit as Southern University claimed a. 66-52 win on Thursday at the Clark Activity Center.

 HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • P.J. Byrd gave Southern a 9-0 lead two minutes into the first half.
  • Duane Posey cut the deficit to 14-6 before Southern went on a 5-0 run to build their lead to 19-6 midway through the first half.
  • An Alex Anderson 3-pointer cut the Jaguars' 19-12 at the 8:57 mark of the first half. 
  • Eric Coleman's layup made the score 29-18 before an 11-0 run lifted the Jaguars to a 38-18 advantage with 39 seconds to go.
  • Roland McCoy hit a 3-pointer with 17 seconds left to close the gap to 38-31 at halftime. 
  • McCoy hit a layup at the end of a 5-0 run to cut the deficit to 42-38 at the 18:00 mark of the second half.
  • The Hornets got within 10, 46-36, on a Kendal Parker 3-pointer with 13:25 remaining in the second half.
  • Southern answered with an 8-1 run to build the lead back to 54-37 midway through the second half.
  • The Hornets went on a 9-0 run to make the score 60-48 with 4:25 left in the second half.
  • Sutherrn did not allow the lead to get below points for the rest of the way.

  • McCoy and Madlock scored 11 points apiece to lead the Hornets' scoring.
  • Madlock led ASU with six rebounds. 
  • Anderson finished with eight points and two steals.
  • Parker had three steals and two blocks.
