Emmanuel, Crawford Garner BOXTOROW HBCU All-American Honors

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State University guard Ayana Emmanuel was named the HBCU BOXTOROW Co-Player of the Year while Jayla Crawford garnered HBCU Second-Team All-American honors released on Wednesday, March 29, 2023.

Alabama State guard Ayana Emmanuel and Howard guard Destiny Howell were named HBCU Co-Players of the Year.

Emmanuel led the SWAC in scoring (16.8) and averaged 4.5 rebounds per game. Last year's first team HBCU All-American scored exactly 2,000 points in her career. She was named the SWAC Player of the Year. Emmanuel scored in double figures 23 times this season with three double-doubles, while earning SWAC Player of the Week and Impact Player of the week four times. Emmanuel ranked second in the SWAC in free throw percentage (82.7), and field goal attempts (418) and led the league points (505), points per game (16.8), free throw attempts (197 ) and free throws made (163). 

Crawford moves up to a first-team selection after earning All-SWAC Second-Team honors a year ago. Crawford scored in double figures 20 times including 29 points against Southern and Abilene Christian and netted 28 points at Bethune-Cookman. Crawford ranked third in the SWAC in field goal percentage (40.9), fourth in free throw percentage (80.7) and points per game (15.2).

BOXTOROW has released the Women's All-America teams since the 2015-16 season.  Players from nine different schools were represented.
