@BamaStateSB Run-Rules MVSU to Sweep Series

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Ashley Pye tossed a complete game and hit two home runs to lead Alabama State to an 11-3 win over Mississippi Valley State University on Thursday at the Barbara Wiliams Softball Complex.  
 
Pye tossed 6.0 innings with four strikeouts and hit two home runs with three RBI while Kindall DeRamus went 5-for-5 with three of the Lady Hornets 10 stolen bases.

 HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hornets took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Alexia Denby singled and scored on a Kelsey Long ground out and DeRamus singled and scored on a Alana Scott sacrifice fly.
  • Mississippi Valley State used a three-run second to take a 3-2 lead.
  • An Pye solo home run to tie the game and a Long two-RBI single to give ASU A 5-3 lead in the bottom of the second.
  • Alabama State added three runs to its total in the third to build the lead to 8-3. Jasmin Rogers delivered and RBI single and Pye belted a two-run home run.
  • The Lady Hornets scored two in the fifth and one in the sixth to end the game by the mercy-rule.
  • DeRamus singled and scored on the play courtesy of three-base throwing error and Rogers topped off the inning with a run-scoring single.
  • DeRamus singled home the final run in the sixth.
IN THE CIRCLE  
  • Ashley Pye (3-4) allowed three runs in the second before tossing 4.1 scoreless innings the rest of the way to earn the win. Pye yielded seven hits and had four strikeouts.
  • Morgan Guttierez (0-7), gave up nine runs on 15 hits and three walks to take the loss in relief of starter Tsosie Gleenabah.
INSIDE THE BOX |  
  • The Hornets stole a season-high 10 bases in the game. Kindall DeRamus had three steals and Alexia Denby had two. Lauryn Maher, Scott, Ja'Niyah Boykin, Jodan Caple and Jaeda Gardner had one steal apiece.
  • DeRamus finished 5-for-5 with one RBI while her three steals rank second in the SWAC with 30.
  • Pye went 2-for-2 with two home runs and three RBI
  • Gardner had three hits while Scott and Rogers each had two hits apiece.
