Six Homers Power Hornets Past FAMU, 10-1

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State University baseball tied a season-high with six home runs enroute to a 10-1 over Florida A&M University on Saturday at the Wheeler-Watkins Basketball Complex. 

Florida A&M scored a run in the first before the Hornets scored
in five straight innings. ASU plated a run in the second and third innings, two in the fourth, one in the fifth, two in the sixth and three in the seventh.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  
  • A Ty Hanchey sac fly plated a run in the first inning to give the Rattlers a 1-0 lead.
  • Ali Lapread tied the game with a solo home run in the second. 
  • Devin Chandler stroked a homer to left field to put the Hornets ahead for good at 2-1. 
  • Lapread's two-run round tripper with Jack Hay aboard gave the Hornets a 4-1 advantage in the fourth.  
  • Randy Flores got in on the home run parade, belting a home run down the right field line in the fifth to increase the lead to 5-1.  
  • Chandler doubled home Corey King and Jamel George doubled in Chandler to make the score 7-1 in the sixth. 
  • Hay added a three-run home run in the seventh to give ASU a 10-1 lead and close the scoring.  
ON THE MOUND  
  • Ricardo Rivera (6-0) yielded a run on three hits with five punch outs to earn the win.  
  • Jorhan Laboy struck out seven while throwing 2.0 scoreless innings and scattering two hits to earn the save.  
  • Caleb George (6-3) took the loss for the Rattlers, allowing seven runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts.  
INSIDE THE BOX  
  • Alabama State tied its season-high with six home runs to extebd its SWAC leading total to 59.  
  • Lapread homered two times in a game for the second time this season, finishing 2-for-4 with three RBI. 
  • Chandler went 2-for-4 with a career-best two RBI.  
  • Kyler McIntosh had two hits, including a double.  
  • Hay was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. 
  • The win puts the Hornets in sole possession of first place in the SWAC East Division.
