Hornets Claim Series with 9-7 'Win Over FAMU in Extra Innings

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | Alabama State University baseball scored two runs in the top of the 12th inning to claim a 7 win and the series win over Florida A&M University on Saturday at Moore-Kittles Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED  
  • Janmikel Bastardo's two-run home run gave the Rattlers a 2-0 lead after the first inning.  
  • The Hornets got on the board in the third inning. Jack Hay delivered a two-out double and would score on Corey King's double to cut the deficit to 2-1.  
  • Randy Flores hit a two-run home run and Jack Hay had an RBI single to put the Hornets in front 4-2 in the top of the fourth.  
  • Ali Lapread led off the fifth with a double and scored on Kerrigan Edmondson's two-out RBI single to give the Hornets a 5-2 lead.  
  • The Rattlers used a four-run sixth to take a 6-5 lead. Ben Kim drove in two runs on a single followed by a run crossing on a bases loaded walk and a ground out.  
  • The Hornets struck for two runs to take a 7-6 lead in the top of the eighth. Trent Jamison started the inning with a double and scored on a McIntosh sacrifice fly followed by an Ian Matos RBI single that scored Kerrigan Edmondson. 
  • A Jared Weber run-scoring double tied the game 7-7 moving to the ninth inning.  
  • The Hornets scored two runs in the top of the 12th to take a 9-7 lead. Randy Flores scored on a Ian Matos squeeze bunt and McIntosh scored on a Corey King sac-fly. 
ON THE MOUND 
  • Shadai Colon (5-0) worked 5.2 innings with seven strikeouts while allowing two runs on two hits but did not figure into the decision. 
  • Austin King (1-0) tossed 2.0 scoreless innings, yielding no runs or hits with three strikeouts to earn the win. 
  • Tre Simmons (1-2) took the loss, recording one strikeout in 0.2 innings for the Rattlers. 
INSIDE THE BOX  
  • Alabama State's xx hits marked the 35th time the Hornets had double-figure hits this year.  
  • Hornet Hurlers combined for 15 strikeouts to record double-digit strikeouts for the 25th time this season.  
  • The 15 strikeouts were the third most this season by ASU pitchers  
  • True freshman Austin King recorded his first collegiate victory on the mound.  
  • Edmondson, Jameson, and McIntosh had three hits apiece
  • McIntosh, Hay, Lopez, Lapread, King, and Jameson had doubles. 
  • Flores home run was his 10th of the season, moving into second on the team.
