Jada Rhodes and
Jylen Whitten combined to lead Alabama State past Alabama A&M in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action 3-1 (25-18, 25-20, 25-17) on Friday night.

Whitten led Alabama State with 11 kills and posted six digs, while Rhodes added nine kills and 11 digs. Meanwhile,
Madison Beasley led Alabama State with 18 assists and
Temperance Chatman led the team with 13 digs.

SET 1 | Alabama A&M jumped on top 8-7 before a 3-0 run from Alabama State put the Lady Hornets up 10-8. The lead grew to 14-11 before Alabama A&M took a 16-15 lead that was short-lived due to a 7-0 Alabama State run for a 22-16 lead highlighted by three
Christyn Ashby kills. The Lady Hornets were able to put the set away scoring three of the final four points.

SET 2 | Alabama A&M jumped out to a 9-7 lead before Alabama State used a 3-0 run to take a 16-13 lead. They extended the lead to 18-14 on a Rhodes kill before Alabama A&M got to within 20-19. The Lady Hornets went on a 4-0 run to seal the set using a kill from
Taila Gaines and a service ace from Whitten to end the set.

SET 3 | The Lady Hornets jumped out to a 7-2 lead to open the set on kills from Gaines, Whitten and Rhodes. A 5-1 run extended the lead to 15-8 later in the set using a block from Gaines in the run, before a 5-0 extended the lead to 21-11 using a pair of kills from Rhodes. They were able to put the set and match away on a block from Gaines.

Alabama State heads to Texas for the SWAC Cluster beginning Sunday, Oct. 8 against Texas Southern. They will also face Prairie View A&M (October 8) and Southern (October 9).
