MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State dropped a hard-fought four-set match to North Alabama 3-1 (21-25, 29-27, 18-25, 20-25) in front of a packed house at Lockhart Gymnasium on Tuesday night.

Brooke Adams recorded a double-double with 18 assists and 12 digs, while
Jylen Whitten and
Christyn Ashby led Alabama State with 11 kills each.
Taila Gaines added 10 in the loss.
Madison Beasley recorded a season-high 22 assists, while
Jada Rhodes and
Temperance Chatman added 12 digs.

SET 1 | North Alabama jumped ahead early in the first set, 3-1 before the two teams traded points to get the opening set to 6-4. The Lions used a 3-0 run to pull ahead 9-4 before Alabama State used an error and service ace to pull back to within three at 9-6. The Lady Hornets pulled to within 10-8 using a kill from
Kaylen Hines, before a 5-0 run pushed the Lions' lead to 16-9. Alabama State would not go away, scoring four out of five points using a kill from Ashby and another by Rhodes to pull to within 20-16. The two teams traded points until Alabama State went on a 3-0 run to get to within two at 23-21 before North Alabama scored the final two points to win the set.

SET 2 | Alabama State battled back from an early four-point deficit, using a 6-0 run to pull to within one at 19-18. The Lady Hornets faced match point at 24-21 before reeling off three consecutive points highlighted by a pair of kills and a pair of service aces. The two teams traded points with each having a match point with the Lions grabbing a 27-26 lead. Alabama State closed out the set on a 3-0 run with a kill from Beasley to win the set 29-27.

SET 3 | The third set was much like the first two with the teams trading points and going on runs with North Alabama jumping ahead 13-8. The Lady Hornets used a service error from UNA and a service ace from Chatman to pull within three at 14-11. They were able to pull to within two at 18-16 following a service ace and then a kill from Whitten. North Alabama went on a pair of 3-0 runs to claim the set and a 2-1 lead.

SET 4 | The fourth set saw the teams trade points until North Alabama grabbed a 9-6 lead before Alabama State used back-to-back points to pull within 9-8. The two teams traded runs with Alabama State pulling within 14-13 and again at 18-17, before tying the match at 19-all on kills from Whitten and Gaines. However, North Alabama scored five of the final six points to claim the set and the match.

Alabama State returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 7 on the road at UNC-Wilmington. The match begins at 4 pm (CT) and is the first of three for the Lady Hornets at the Seahawk Volleyball Classic.
