Alabama State falls to Jackson State In SWAC Home Opener

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Alabama State University women's basketball team got 17 points and nine boards from Cordasia Harris but fell to Jackson State University 75-49 on Thursday inside the Acadome.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Jackson State got off to a quick start taking 13-3 lead to start the game.
  • The Tigers closed the quarter on a 9-0 run to carry 27-7 lead into the second quarter.
  • A 6-0 run coupled with a 3:17 JSU scoring drought helped the Lady Hornets deficit to 41-24 at the half.
  • Alabama State outscored the Tigers 17-14 in the second quarter.
  • Alabama State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Hornets faced a 59-37 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Alabama State played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 13 points in the paint.
  • Alabama State narrowed its deficit to 62-41 before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Ryin Tillis' jumper, to shrink the deficit to 62-47 with 6:11 to go in the contest.
  • Jackson State responded and outscored the Hornets the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 75-49. Alabama State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 12 of its 12 points in the paint.
