MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State came back from a nine-point halftime deficit to pick up a 55-53 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) victory over Alcorn State at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome on Saturday.
Alabama State (8-9, 3-1 SWAC) trailed 29-20 at the break before taking its first lead with 8:32 remaining in the game. They were able to hit a pair of free throws late and used a blocked shot by
Sean Smith on a three-point attempt to seal the victory.
TJ Madlock led Alabama State with 14 points including his 1,000th career point in the second half and grabbed five rebounds. He was joined in double figures by
Isaiah Range with 12 and Smith with 10 points and seven rebounds.
How It Happened
- Alabama State finished the night shooting 34.4 (21-of-61) percent from the floor and 22.2 (6-of-27) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot just 58.3 (7-of-12) percent from the free throw line.
- Meanwhile, Alcorn State shot 37.9 (22-of-58) percent from the floor and 21.1 (4-of-19) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 55.6 (5-of-9) percent from the free throw line.
- The game saw seven lead changes and three ties.
Alabama State Notes
- Micah Octave recorded a steal in his 17th consecutive game with a pair against the Braves.
- Ubong Octave grabbed eight rebounds, including five offensive.
- The Hornets recorded nine assists, blocked five shots, and turned the ball over 11 times.
