Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Alabama State earned an exciting five-set win 25-15, 16-25, 25-22, 21-25, 15-9 to down Alabama A&M and claim the regular-season sweep over the Bulldogs.
ASU, winners of three in a row, improve to 8-13 overall and 5-3 in SWAC play, while AAMU falls to 5-15 and 3-5 in the conference.
The Lady Hornets used a balanced approach.
Jyriah Morgan finished a team-high 17 kills and a .371 attack percentage, while
Christyn Ashby finished with 11 kills.
Kaylen Hines added 10 kills and finished with a .350 attack percentage.
Setters
Kamrynn Clay and
Sierra Scanlan successfully ran the offense. Clay finished with a match-high 28 assists, and Scanlan added 18 assists.
The Lady Hornets were busy in front of the net and collected 28 assisted blocks.
Zanobia Willis finished with a match-high eight assisted blocks, while Hines added six assisted blocks. Ashby finished with five assisted blocks and Morgan added three assisted blocks.
Bailee Payne finished with a team-high 13 digs, and teammate
Breanna Swanson was right there with 12 digs.
The Lady Hornets saved their best for last and tallied a .400 attack percentage in the fifth set.
ASU returns to the road this weekend and travel to Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern.
