Alabama State Women's Basketball falls at Mississippi State

STARKVILLE, Miss. |  Kaitlyn Bryant scored 16 points as Alabama State University to the Mississippi State University 83-29 at Humpries Coliseum on Wednesday morning.

Bryant led the Hornets (2-1) with 16 points and two steals. Pooler also added six points and two steals off of the bench and Justina Graham chipped in as well with two points.

Alabama State forced 17 Mississippi State turnovers. The Hornets turned those takeaways into 11 points on the other end of the floor. Bryant's two steals led the way for Alabama State.

How It Happened

Alabama State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 25-7 at the end of the first quarter.

The Hornets continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 43-16 halftime deficit.

Alabama State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Hornets faced a 60-17 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Alabama State's bench made the most of its minutes in the period, as non-starters totaled one of the team's one third-quarter points.

Mississippi State kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 78-21 advantage before Alabama State went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Pooler's three, to shrink the deficit to 78-27 with 1:22 to go in the contest. Mississippi State responded and outscored the Hornets the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 83-29. Alabama State took advantage of four Mississippi State turnovers in the quarter, scoring five points off of those takeaways.
